Calendar of event to come

Steve Nailor, president of the National Association of Conference Presidents of UMMen has stated,”We are all on a journey ‘to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world’”.  He further states,”my goal is for all of us to work together to strengthen men throughout the denomination and the world”. These are lofty goals indeed.

How does UMM at Durant seek to reflect these goals, equipping and supporting men of all ages toward strengthening their discipleship journey?

Simply breaking bread together regularly for fellowship and connection is only one aspect of our focus. Support of Scouting and service to the church and the community through “work days” are also emphasized.  An initiative for 2017 currently under development is the construction of Blessing Boxes in our area. The Blessing Box concept is sweeping the country and was recently spotlighted on NBC Evening News.  The first has been placed at the Wesley Student Center near the Southeastern campus. (See picture.) We want to be a catalyst for this effort in the region for all interested individuals.

Additionally, the education of our membership through having speakers from the Durant area is another way we facilitate connection with the community. Perhaps Proverbs 27:17 sums our efforts up best.  “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend”.

Meetings on Thursday evenings, as well as occasional Saturday mornings, are aimed at accommodating diverse work schedules of our membership.  Meeting schedules are announced in the church bulletin, the Tower, and by e-mail to the membership.  Interested men can also contact any UMM member or call/text John Williams at 580-916-2421.
